Understanding Evacuation Zones and Orders

Not all evacuation orders are the same — and knowing the difference between your zone designation and order type can help you make better decisions.

Evacuation zones are pre-mapped areas that local emergency management uses to prioritize who should leave first. Zone A typically goes first, then B and C.

Voluntary evacuation means you're urged to leave. Mandatory means you should leave. In many jurisdictions, ignoring a mandatory order means emergency services may not be able to prioritize your rescue.
