Tornado warnings leave very little time to act — sometimes only a few minutes. The households that come through best are the ones that identified their shelter spot and communicated it to all family members before tornado season.

The basics: identify your safe room (interior, lowest level, away from windows), know the difference between a watch and a warning, and sign up for local emergency alerts.
