During an evacuation, the most dangerous thing is spending too much time. Every minute you spend collecting non-essentials is a minute the situation may be worsening.

The rule is simple: go-bag, medications, pets, phone, wallet. Everything else is replaceable. Most people overestimate how much they can safely take.
